Unobtainium No More by Dasvamp

Been a reader of PW:Gold for quite some time, and it was the articles by The Mogfather that infected me with the Goblin virus.

Guess that I was lucky to be first on my server to notice the possibilities of Xmog and it went really well, from a couple 10’s K gold to half a million in 5-6 months, was really awesome.

At some point my AH inventory would amount to around 10% of all the AH in EU-Bladefist, Horde side. Really awesome was transforming 80g that I had lying around in a lvl 2 lock on the alliance side, in 4 months +- they became 350k, most of them very well spent on TCG pets and some other really difficult to get ones.

But this is history. What brings me here today, and thank you Jim for suggesting that I should make a post for this, are a couple of items that when Cataclysm was released became unobtainable, either because the mobs that used to drop them were removed or changed level and the items wouldn't drop from them anymore.

And here they are:

• Chan's Imperial Robes
• Shadowfang
• Assassin's Blade

First the robes: they used to drop from a rare spawn in Hinterlands, and stopped dropping when the area got it’s level reduced from 45-50 to 30-35, lowering the mobs levels. Since Mith'rethis the Enchanter was the only mob that dropped them they became ‘unobtainnium’.

Apparently, they are back in the game, and from WowHead’s comments, now they are a rare zone drop in Blackrock Depths and the Blasted Lands (before the invasion), specially from the rare spawns there and the bags and chests from Kumisha.

The following graph from TUJ seems to confirm this with an increase in offer of 20 times between the 15th of October and 11th November (10-199):


As for the two blades, considered to be BiS for level 19 twinks, and taking into consideration the comments in WowHead, are both rare zone drops from Shadowfang Keep, and the graphs from TUJ reflect exactly the same trend as the robes:

These graphs are from EU Region, but the US Region ones reflect exactly the same data: ten or less of each one of them on the 15th October in the whole region to around 200+ of each on the 11th November and the corresponding price drop from hundreds of thousands of gold to “only” tens of thousands.

In my humble opinion the robes are some of more gorgeous ones in game for female characters, and their unique skin and rarity should keep them as very sought after items. As for the blades, depends on the twink market of your servers (does it exist? Does it have many people?), and these are questions that only you can answer by looking at what sells, what people are looking for in trade, etc.
