What survives through expansion inflation? Unattainable items not only survive but their prices skyrocket. How about stocking up on haunted mementos? Swift Love Birds? Lunar festival and Love season BoE pets(if u think they will be available next year simply sell them in 6-9 months)?
ReplyDeleteOne thing is sure, buying a level 25 guild (usually worth 100k) is a sure investment as you will always be able to resell it to some raiders or simply get a mass invites addon (i.e. Ninja Invites off Ownedcore.com); with a filled guild (999 members is the cataclysm cap) you'll get around 1-2k per day from the Cash Flow perk.
-Bomboclat ; Mug'thol
All great advice. Have you purchased many level 25 guilds?
DeleteThe point is to use the guild for both short term and long term profits. Short terme profits are from the cash flow perk and long term profits where you get to sell guild in next xpac. Guilds being so expensive, it would be useless to stockpile on them if your realm population is low and u cant get them to population cap. So it depends on your realm population and if there's other people who are already mass inviting.
DeleteWhen you reach a certain ammount of money, you realize that playing with gold pebbles is a waste of time. It's time to enter the big league and invest into highly priced items where the profits on re-selling are above 30k a peice. This when you enter the guilds and tcg items sector. As these are the highest priced items on the market which never lose their value unlike the high priced gear. Instead of searching for hundreds of transmog items and always having a filled mailbox, you should simply search for underpriced guilds and tcg items which you may over-price. I strongly suggest you use theunderminejournal.com for this to get an idea of the real value of an item and compare it to other realms. This market isnt avalable for you if you dont have arround 200-300k to invest, but it's worth winning 50-100k a peice from overpricing than searching for transmog gear and get 1-2k.
I didnt reach 1.1mil within a couple of months by searching for 1k profitable items. Now i know that telling this to everyone might destroy this market by increasing the competition. Oh well, D3 is comming out soon anyways and that's where the real deal will be.

It is interesting to hear how people who play at a completely different level then myself think.
DeleteHey great podcast, I want point out a small mistake you guys made. The vendor your talking about to buy the pattern to transmute Water to Air, if you didn't do the quest back before Cata, then you pretty much can't get the pattern now.
ReplyDeleteTo explain, before Cata to see the NPC in the zone (where the vendor is) you had to a quest chain there which took you inside, etc. The end of the chain you got a quest item which allowed you to talk to the dead NPC which the patter Water to Air is sold.
In Cata, this quest was removed form the game long with the item. So if your character didn't do the quest chain before Cata you pretty much out of luck. I don't know if they changed or fixed this. This was something I didn't know about personally so I missed out in getting the pattern and I haven't see anything in terms if they readded the vendor for anyone to see (I'm gonna go check myself here in a bit).
I found about this back in the first months of cata when I needed Air and figure I'll just transmute it being Water was so cheap. That is how I found out and I have been kicking myself since. Just thought I let you know so people don't listen and the rush out there to get the pattern and find out there are no vendors there to see. :/
I thought the same thing but was able to get this on all 4 of my Alchemists yesterday. He doesn't seem to be the exact same NPC as the old one. The one I bought from was a dwarf spirit in the blacksmith shop.
DeleteI believe they have changed it to not need any sort of pre-req's to buy.
As Jim pointed out I don't think this is the case. I have a character that I actually didn't roll until after Cataclysm and leveled entirely through the dungeon finder (no quests) that was able to pick up this recipe. :)
DeleteThis must have been updated at some point between patch 4.1 an 4.2 then. But it's good to know they ninja fixed this as I never saw it in any patch notes.
DeleteGreat podcast, as always!
ReplyDeleteI've been pondering what to do now to prepare for Mists and that would be to make to make the most out of the incoming Beta.
The first thing that comes to mind is tradeskills, of course.
Which means already farming up the mats to level tradeskills (like Faid mentioned) and have them in your toons' bags when you copy them over to the Beta.
They always make tweaks to profession leveling in every expansion, especially for the expansion that's just expired, so you can adjust quickly what to stockpile and also what will be the right amount of Cata mats to use to bump your skills on to the Mists levels of crafting.
I'm expecting Kaliope will be on top of all of this, but hey every bit helps.
Very good plans. More detail-oriented than I'll ever be. :D
DeleteIn the same vein as stocking up for a "free" 15-20 levels in crafting professions when the expac hits...Tip I used for gathering profs was NOT to gather from the new area that was being picked over for hundreds of toons flooding in. I gathered from top areas of current expac. The areas were desolate and nodes plentiful and mostly the top herb/ore/etc will get you at least 30 levels in.
ReplyDeleteI didn't cash in on "first night" 15g per herb prices, but you level faster (no competition) and end up with A LOT more product that you can then sale a month later when leveler's need the old expac mats and no one is farming them anymore.
Sneaky. I love it.
DeleteMogging Pricing:
ReplyDeleteI do like the 3-tier pricing set you guys were discussing, and I might end up moving to that pricing model as well. But as it's been said before, it helps to have a "WOW, why is that green so expensive?" factor. I might look through my inventory to see what looks the best and the rarest, and might just throw it in for 20K, not to sell, but to advertise...akso, this might lubricate the sales on the lower price items.
Investment for MoP:
If this were real life investment advice for a "long-term" stuff (say, retirement account), I think most times you get advice of "Diversify". My guess is it's probably not a bad idea since there are many different things that can happen from now to the MoP, and I'd probably start looking at spreading out as much as possible. Say, looking at my asset, and "25% in leveling stuff, 25% in vanity items, 25% in stable stuff across all levels, and 25% in liquid cash", or some such. And then start thinking about investment per Bank/Pack slot. I think I'd start thinking at least "1K per slot or more". So a stack of 20 Hypnotic dusts...well, we know it will most likely go up in value, but it'll most likely be around 100g per stack, and it's just too low-concentration for me to tie up a pack slot for months. Things like mogging gear probably are best served selling right now.
Other things one can do is to make alts, expand into new market, fill up the currencies (although I'm sure things like JP and Honor gets reset at the launch of MoP), etcs.
