It's About…Time
Who would have thought all that time spent making gold would mean I would never have to pay real money to play World of Warcraft again.
At the current price I have enough gold to buy 10 years worth of WoW Tokens (or 5 years of time running 2 accounts simultaneously).
Do you want to know what the removal of a real money monthly fee has made me realize? That if I'm not playing WoW it isn't because I don't have the money and it certainly isn't because I don't like the game.
The most likely reason I won't pay 22K to get a subscription is simply that the time I have to devote to things like playing a game sitting at my computer is virtually non-existent.
That's not a bad thing. While World of Warcraft is a wonderful hobby and past time. One I love very much I just don't have the time to play it.
I remember back when Erogroth was coming on the podcast and I would be working with him to find a time to record. I remember him being in the exact same place as me (one new child with another close on its heals) and me thinking that *surely* he could find 2 hours out of his week to record.
Surely indeed. I apologize to Ero for not understanding. I understand. I'm understanding more each day.
That's not to say that circumstances won't provide a way for me to play. Now that I can buy game time for gold it will be even easier to just fire up a sub for 30 days when I may have time.
To all you parent out there who have been in the young children + WoW boat how did you make the transition? What tips, tricks, and advice do you have the those of us who daydream about playing but also know that 99.9% of their time is devoted to their little ones (as it should be)?

Jim, for over ten years now I have managed to play some form of game and still help raise 4 kids. I usually help my wife get the kids to sleep and then spend some time with her before she calls it a night. I can usually get a couple of hours in and even more if I can sleep in the next morning. You could also set up a "game night" where you have a committed/dedicated night like some have for poker/softball/bowling or church. Give your wife an opportunity to take a night out where you watch the kids and maybe she'd be willing to trade off with you on another night.
ReplyDeleteThat is some great advice. I'll keep it in mind as baby #2 comes closer. I'd imagine playing could become a nice break.
